You need to get 65% of the 200 questions that are scored correct. Hypothetically, let's say you got all 80 experimental questions wrong and got 130 of the remaining 200 correct. You would pass the exam despite only getting 46.4% of the question pool correct (130/280). Likewise, let's say you got 182 questions correct out of 280.
Step 1 Importance - coming from a current residency applicant. Just wanted to let you guys know that Step 1 score is not nearly as important as you think it is. I know it's rated as the top, single most important criterion for program directors, but it's just not the reality. I'm applying to a field where the average Step 1 is a 240. I have a 260.
