Middle is Federal 209A "full strength" primers. Right is Cheddite 209. Until I found the Federals, I was contemplating using the 209 breech plug with the musket cap firing pin as it had a less severe stike on the Cheddite primer than thre 209 pin did. The musket cap pin proved 100% reliable with Cheddite primers with no piercing.
The 209 primer wedges into the breech plug that I have and you have to pry it out with a primer removal tool. I jumped on the 209 primer bandwagon back then and when BH209 came out, I started using it with good results. 1. the disc extreme only comes in western or full plastic jacket. From what I have read on several forums, the full plastic jacket appears not to consistently ignite the powder charge using BH 209, and the bare primer setup is recommended. The 2 main differences between and Elite and an Extreme are the Elite barrels are contoured and they have a forked recoil lug. The barrel on an Elite has less contact with the stock. Original DISCs used a Orange primer jacket and some had shorter 24" barrels also. Elites and Extremes mostly had the same barrel length.
